As another year comes to a close, GGPoker remains a dominant force in the online poker industry, standing miles ahead of its competition. While its growth rate has tempered slightly compared to its meteoric rise in earlier years—a natural progression for a market leader—it continues to solidify its position as an unrivaled giant in the space.

2024 marked a milestone year for GGPoker’s parent company, NSUS Group, as it celebrated a decade of operations and seven years under the GGPoker brand. While GGPoker maintained its dominance throughout the year, what set 2024 apart was a significant shift toward strategic business moves. Chief among these was GG’s parent acquisition of the WSOP brand for half a billion dollars—an acquisition that may stand as the most pivotal in poker history.

But the WSOP deal was just the tip of the iceberg. GGPoker achieved yet another all-time peak in cash game traffic in 2024, expanded into new jurisdictions, launched new poker formats, and set fresh records with its tournament series and promotions.

These successes, however, were accompanied by their share of controversies.

The year began on a rocky note with a massive security breach that rattled player confidence. The fallout worsened when GGPoker’s Game Integrity Ambassador, Jason Koon, abruptly parted ways with the company. Additionally, some of GGPoker’s policy changes drew sharp criticism, such as introducing an additional fee on top of MTT rake—defended by the operator as necessary for covering operational costs and generous promotions—and privatizing high-stakes VIP cash games.

Despite these challenges, GGPoker’s lead in the online poker industry remains insurmountable. It averages over 12,000 cash game seats globally, far surpassing its closest competitors WPT Global, with just over 2,100 seats, and PokerStars, third with around 2,000 seats.

In Ontario—the only other jurisdiction where GGPoker operates a separate player pool—the operator is equally dominant, maintaining a consistent average of 350 concurrent cash game seats, well ahead of its rivals.

GGPoker’s position is so commanding that it would take a seismic shift in the industry for any competitor to challenge its throne.
