The EU Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) has issued its opinion on the final report issued by the Internal Markets Committee (IMCO), and has come down heavily in favor of nationally regulated gaming markets.

It explicitly rejects the EU Commission’s view that nation states are incapable of effectively regulating online gambling.

JURI describes itself as having “a highly specialised role as the legal adviser of Parliament on … the legal basis of Union acts … and subsidiarity and disputes involving Parliament.”

Its opinion on the validity of proposed EU laws is taken seriously by the EU Commission.
